Merici is a very special mermaid who bridges two very different worlds: human and mermaid! Merici grew up playing along the foggy docks of New Orleans where her Caribbean sirena mother would direct local fishermen to gather the finest shrimp, or camarón in Spanish, to sell to the local restaurants for some of the spiciest jumbo and jambalaya this side of the Caribbean.
While she inherited her sirena mother's oceanic strength and work ethic, she also inherited her father's passion for helping the less fortunate. After helping her mother at her business on the weekends she would often transform in to her legs (a convenient ability for half-mermaids) and walk to the local hospital for free clinic days serving the local poor. Once at the hospital she would help her physician father by amusing waiting children by retelling some of her favorite stories and plays.
Merici is an avid reader and fell in love with the works of Shakespeare - books being a very valuable thing to mermaids, even to mermaids who are able to live in houses. While she would count Ariel from The Tempest as her all-time favorite character (for obvious reasons) she also has a slightly morbid fascination with the character of Ophelia from Hamlet, being confident that had the character been a rusalka it would have made for a much more interesting story. We tend to agree!
