Aloha Fin Friends!
With a name meaning “the sea and the sky” it seems like it was destined that Kailani would become a real live mermaid. You see, ever since she was a little girl, she always loved to surf; in fact, it was her dream to be a professional surfer when she grew up! Surfing was the one hobby that made her feel happy and free. Kailani would take any opportunity she could to travel and surf new places! After several years she had surfed all the seven seas, but her most enchanting experience was yet to come on her home-island of Oahu.
One day she was surfing near the North Shore at a beach called Laniakea Beach. It’s also known as Turtle Beach because you can see adorable sea turtles resting on the sand and swimming to the rocks on shore. It was such a beautiful day, the sun was shining and the water was bluer than the sky!
After catching a couple waves, she looked down and noticed a shimmering light directly underneath her deep down in the coral reef. It was so mesmerizing that she knew she had to check it out! So she unhooked her surfboard’s leash, took a big deep breath, jumped off her surfboard and dove all the way down to investigate.
As she was swimming she suddenly noticed a whirlpool forming around her. The further she swam toward the shining light the bigger the whirlpool got! She couldn’t swim out of it because the coral reef was all around her, but she just had to find out what was shining in the sand below! So she kept going and when she finally she reached the shimmering light, she couldn’t believe her eyes!
There was a big turtle wearing a bright sparkling necklace, holding a shiny black pearl. You might think this strange, but what happened next was even stranger still! All of the sudden she could hear the turtle talking to her, telling her to put on the necklace! She thought she was going crazy from a lack of oxygen, but she followed what the turtle said. When she did something downright magical happened. Her legs were suddenly wrapped together, and she looked down and noticed the wrap had scales, just like a fish! After a few moments she could feel herself breathing under water, and though she was confused, she wasn’t afraid. She asked the turtle “What’s happened to me? What’s going on?” The turtle told her she was chosen to be a mermaid, and spread the joy and magic of sirens and the importance of the ocean to people around the world
So now she’s here to celebrate with you on your own magical day, to tell you about how you can help protect the seas, and to let you know that anything is possible. Something that you’re likely to learn from Mermaid Kailani is to never give up on your dreams, and always follow your heart, because it will lead you to your destiny.
